Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
Funeral service for Odell Woodrow "Odie" Allsup will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 9, at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Terrell Romberg and Pastor Chris Rose officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
Odie died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 89.
The son of Thomas Jerry and Retta Maud (Blakemore) Allsup was born March 15, 1919, in Owasso. He attended Owasso schools, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. Odie worked at Civil Conservation Corps, the Pryor Powder (TNT) Plant, McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft for nine years and then retired after 23 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 where he worked in maintenance. On January 6, 1984, Odie married Juanita Eve Scott at Faith Baptist Church. Odie was an active member of the American Legion, and served 2 terms as Post Commander and for many years called Bingo. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels for 22 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing dominoes, and more importantly playing with his grand and great grandchildren. He always had candy hid away for them and a lap waiting to hold them on. Odie enjoyed his large family & the traditional holiday get to togethers, summer camping trips, ballgames and just enjoying his family. He came from a large loving loyal family and he passed that on to his own. Odie was a charter member and deacon of Faith Baptist Church.
Odie is survived by his wife, Juanita of the home; children: Karon Anderson & husband Pete of Claremore, Donald Giles of Pryor, Ronald Giles & wife Sheila of Pryor, David Gideon & wife Carol of Owasso, Bill Tillery & wife Jennie of Grove, Charleen Prebble & husband David of Claremore, Lavonda Davis & husband Gregg of Foyil, and Teresa Baxter of Claremore; siblings: Joe Allsup of Tulsa, Kenneth Allsup of California, Tommy Allsup of Texas, Lorene Roberts of Owasso, Laverne Worley of Owasso, Gladys Willis of Sand Springs, Marcella Bone of Bristow, and Darlene Baldridge of Kellyville; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel (Gideon) Allsup, parents, & siblings: Bill Allsup, Buel "Chico" Allsup, Oleta Burns, and Mildred Worley.
