Services for Verdigris resident Christine Anderson will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Chapel in Claremore. Rev. J. R. Sumter, pastor of the New Life Tabernacle, will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. A reception will follow immediately following the services at the homeplace.

Christine was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2003. She was 69.

She was born on Silk Stocking Road in Verdigris, Oklahoma on December 17, 1933, the daughter of Barty and Edith Miller Holman. Christine was reared and educated in Verdigris and graduated from Catoosa High School in 1951. She married Air Force Ssgt. Richard Elwood Swinney in 1951. Richard died while in the airforce in 1956. In 1958 she married Andy Anderson in Claremore.

Christine received her nursing degree and began work at St. Johns Hospital in O.B. delivery. She was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in Chelsea. She spent many years of her life in nursing, serving on church boards, Verdigris School reunion committees, and organizing family holiday events. She was a founding member of the Rogers County Appaloosa Horse Club, raising horses and cattle on a ranch on Hwy 66 in Verdigris, and recently ran the A & A Equipment Company with her husband Andy. She loved children, plants, gardening, bowling, bird watching, and raising animals. She was called “mom” by many, and her passing has left her family with many memories. She will be greatly missed.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Barty and Edith Holman; brother, Mathew Holman, husband Richard E. Swinney, and step-mother Fanny Gourd.

Family members surviving are her husband of 30 years, Andy Anderson of Verdigris; siblings, Mary Ann Wolf and husband John of Claremore, Jerry Wayne Holman and wife Nancy of Claremore, Joy Ann Milehan of Chandler, and Glenda Jean Thompson of Arlington, TX; sons, Richard Elwood Swinney II and wife Jerri of Claremore, David Lee Swinney of Claremore, Donald Eugene Swinney of Verdigris, John Wayne Anderson of Stillwater, Bob Leon Anderson and wife Debbie of Claremore; granddaughter and great-grandson that Christine raised Shannon Dawn Swinney and Mathew Austin Simpson; and 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
